General- ly, the firearms manufacturers hold their new announcements—even their announcements about new duty pistols—for the Shooting Hunting and Outdoor Trade show in Las Vegas in January. Glock decided to break that marketing model this year, unveiling its G45 duty pistol at this year's IACP. And the pis- tol was one of the hits of the show, as officers came to the booth to get some hand-on time with it. The G45, like a lot of contemporary law enforcement handguns, was developed for the Army's Modular Handgun System competition. Glock markets the military version as the Glock 19X. The G45 is a G19X modified for law enforce- ment and civilian use. "Crossover" is the term that the firearms industry uses for pistols like the G45. It's a cross between a full-size model and a compact. The new duty pistol has a full-size frame and a 4-inch compact slide. Chambered in 9mm, the G45 has a standard magazine capacity of 17 rounds. The G45 features the company's proprietary coating on the steel components and the Generation 5 grip style and pattern with finger grooves like the G19X. Other features in- clude an enlarged and flared magazine well for faster reload- ing, forward slide serrations useful for press checks, ambi- dextrous slide release levers, and accurized barrels. www. glock.com GLOCK'S NEW DUTY PISTOL FLIR's Black Hornet Drone is small but extremely capable. The drone features infrared and electro-optical sensors.
